Why Plant-Powered?

Our pioneering, plant-powered range of vegan leather trainers is a passion project, inspiring us to make a difference and have a meaningful impact.

In an era where we increasingly seek products with a greater purpose, our responsible vegan trainer range reflects our commitment to designing footwear that aligns with 21st century lifestyles and principles, helping to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Recognising the common association in the fashion industry of vegan with plastic, our ambitious and innovative project - to launch a sustainable collection of women's vegan trainers crafted from plant-based leathers and incorporating recycled materials - is a watershed, not just for Cocorose London, but for the wider fashion and footwear industry.

Securing the support of Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, reflects the significance of this endeavour and has enabled us to bring our vision to life and set a precedent for sustainability in the broader fashion and footwear landscape.

Why Cactus?

Cactus plants are eco-friendly superstars, showcasing remarkable sustainability. Their robust and resilient nature enables them to thrive in challenging environments with minimal irrigation, flourishing even in drought conditions whilst naturally rejuvenating the surrounding soil. Extensive research has unveiled the impressive capacity of cactus plants as CO2 sinks, with just 14 acres absorbing 8,100 tons of carbon annually, playing a pivotal role in mitigating climate change.

In a noteworthy development, resourceful farmers in Mexico have recently uncovered that cactus leaves serve as an exceptional, plant-based alternative for animal or synthetic leather. This vegan cactus leather proves to be not only durable but also soft and flexible. Embracing this innovative alternative allows us to access an entirely sustainable resource, concurrently promoting cactus cultivation - a practice that aids climate change and one that can contribute to substantial, sustainable economic growth in local communities where cacti are cultivated.

Why Handmade?

We've always been incredibly passionate about sourcing high quality materials and working closely with our skilled shoemakers to achieve the best results with our footwear range. Supporting our skilled shoemakers means appreciating the art of handmade footwear - a level of attention to detail that big, automated machines just cannot match. Our Plant-Powered project led us to Portugal, where our specialised shoemaking team are expertly trained on working with this innovative material.

Renowned for redefining footwear comfort, our new, vegan range is no exception and continues this tradition by seamlessly blending innovative materials with a timeless aesthetic suitable for everyday wear. The use of organic cactus leather ensures a soft and supple finish whilst the rubber soles, injected with 30% recycled cork, provide a durable and supportive foundation for every step. The luxurious footbeds are contoured and indulgently cushioned, ensuring uncompromised comfort, durability and support.

Why Kew?

We've named our new plant-based leather trainers Kew -  taking inspiration from the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, and the incredible work they do to protect plants and our future. Kew helps fight against the loss of biodiversity to save life on Earth, because if plant life stops, all life stops 🌍

Our Kew style features five versatile and stylish colourways and exudes sophistication without compromising on comfort. Four models showcase off-white cactus leather with accents in Bordeaux, Blue Marine, Mostaza or Beige on the heel tab, whilst the fifth model boasts a sleek, all-black design. Each pair is adorned with our logo on the heel tab and carries our impactful Plant-Powered message, discreetly printed on both the footbed and underside of the tongue, reflecting our commitment to responsible vegan footwear and sustainability. Shop our plant based footwear today.
